Ocean Views is situated in an area steeped in maritime history. In 1912 the first launch of an aircraft at sea took place off Portland Bill and during the First World War Portland Harbour was used as a base for reconnaissance seaplanes. Between 1945-99 Portland became the centre for testing of the Royal Navy's helicopters and developed into a busy Naval Air Station.
After the closure of the Portland Naval Base and HMS Osprey in the early 1990's the area laid dormant until a period regeneration began. Ocean Views is now very much part of this new era at Weymouth and Portland.
